This past weekend was the 24th Annual Taste of the Nation Orlando held at the Orlando World Center Marriott. It was an honor to be the photographer for the event again this year.
The event raises money to fight childhood hunger and the proceeds benefit the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
Lucille O’Neal, mother of Shaquille O’Neal served as the honorary chair of this year’s event. Thirty-five of Orlando’s finest restaurants offered samples of their appetizers, entrees, and desserts.
The highlight of the evening was a throwdown cook-off sponsored by Creekstone Farms. Judged by O’Neal, WFTV news anchor Bob Opsahl, and Orlando food critic Scott Joseph, two chefs prepared a Vegas style steak.
Dana Taylor from MIX 105.1 and Paco Lopez from SUNNY 105.9 were the emcees for the evening’s festivities which also included a silent and live auction. There was also a raffle to win a 100-bottle wine cellar.
Some of the participants of Taste of the Nation Orlando included:
Cress Restaurant, Eddie V’s, K Restaurant and Wine Bar, Mama Melrose’s, Universal Studios Orlando, Sea World, Marlow’s Tavern, Orlando World Center Marriott, JW Marriott, Red Wing Restaurant, Sushi House Orlando, Empress Sissi, The Capital Grille, The Ravenous Pig, 4Rivers Smokehouse, Cask & Larder, Kobe Steakhouse, Orlando Brewing Company, Cigar City Brewery, and Red Light Red Light.
I was able to sample some of the offerings at several of the locations and it was all fantastic. I’m already looking forward to next years event!
